What is our Women’s Health Clinic/Mummy MOT?

Our Women’s Health Clinic/Mummy MOT is a detailed assessment with a focus on women's pelvic health. Your osteopath will examine posture, strength, abdominal/core function, and pelvic floor function - this is a global, holistic assessment centred around your individual needs.

Who Is Our Women’s Health Clinic/Mummy MOT for?

Anyone with female anatomy can benefit from our Women’s Health/Mummy MOT, whether you have had children or not, no matter your age. We assess for all ailments of the female pelvic floor, including pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence, faecal incontinence, flatus, sexual dysfunction, diastasis recti, and general post-partum or menopausal pain.

What is the treatment?

Depending on your examination results, your osteopath will offer a combination of manual therapy and rehabilitation.

Will I need to get undressed?

Included in our Women’s Health Clinic/Mummy MOT service is an internal vaginal assessment of your pelvic floor. You have the right to say no to this - your practitioner will work with your needs and preferences and will be able to assess your pelvic floor externally as well. Although less detailed, depending on your concerns, this won't affect your treatment outcomes and your practitioner will always explain why they are examining and proceed with your ongoing verbal consent. Consent may be withdrawn at any point during the session.

Will I need to return for a follow-up?

As with most manual therapy, management of your complaint will likely require multiple sessions. This is to supervise progression with rehabilitation, as well as treating tensions and restrictions manually in-session to promote ongoing benefits. Your osteopath will discuss your hypothesised prognosis based on examination findings.

Pelvic and lower back pain

- a full assessment of your core, spine, pelvis and pelvic floor may allow a more specific treatment and rehabilitation approach to your lower back or pelvic pain.

Tummy gap (diastasis recti)

- assessment, treatment, rehab, and follow-up checks can help with the reconstruction or your core muscles when a tummy gap doesn't fully resolve post-partum.

Bladder or bowel symptoms

- from leaking - to urgency, correct assessment and treatment with rehabilitation can both prevent and reverse both bowel and bladder symptoms.

Pelvic organ prolapse

- an assessment and personal management of pelvic organ prolapse can prevent future pain and worsening symptoms. With continued management, prolapses may become asymptomatic.

Menstrual pain

- in some cases, overly tight or weakened pelvic floor muscles can aggravate period pain. This is called primary dysmenorrhoea when there is no other underlying cause (such as endometriosis, fibroids, etc...)

Endometriosis/fibroids/PCOS

- although not reversible, the long term compensations in your pelvic floor and core canister can impact and aggravate symptoms. Assessment and treatment may allow symptoms to decrease in their intensity or frequency.
